Hot Ideas on Mr Birling and Sheila in ACT 1 of 'An Inspector Calls'

I have been teaching 'An Inspector Calls' for a long time. Each year, new classes have new ideas and they both extend and challenge my own thinking.  In this blog...First impressions of Mr Birling, as recorded by my Yr 10 class of 22/23 in their first essays. As well as sharing them here for the whole class to read, they will also be shared with another top set English class in Hertfordshire.  My friend and I swap our writing each week and we decided it would be a massive help to our classes if they swapped some ideas too. So, read on into the comments for our interpretations of JB Priestley's Mr Birling.  Each student who comments will receive a house point and the most original comment will receive 5 house points.  Get thinking,  Mrs Shaw HOT IDEAS from today:  Will noticed that Mr Birling uses the adverbial phrase 'of course': "I refused, of course" in an apparent shadowing of the Inspector's earlier use: "Burnt her inside out, of course."...
